Yesterday I marched for so many reasons, but the main one was because Trump has ignited something in me that has been there all my life: hurt. I’ve been hurt by this country because I was born with two strikes already against me. Being alive for this long in America, I have been reminded that I am a black woman every day. I have been reminded that “The most disrespected person in America is the black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the black woman. The most neglected person in America is the black woman.” Trump’s election smacked me in the face with this buried hurt and yesterday I finally decided I no longer wanted to be silent about it. I wanted to stand with every woman that has been hurt and neglected by this country.
